[May_God_Have_Mercy_On_ Our_Bloggy_Little_Hearts]
Hey guys.
We've had a great run here at WearingTheseChains. From our first post back in May of 2005, when we were just another free stop on blogspot.com, and the primogenial Dear Trent, which in and of itself set the blueprint for pretty much everything to come, we've gotten to partake in a lot of good times with all you guys. The Meathead Wars, Dierdre's engagement, and a whole lotta haiku... it's been a good run.
But passion is elastic, the progress of time is constant, and things... well, things change.
With that, I'm here to announce that WearingTheseChains is going on extended hiatus. For the record, this isn't me acting unilaterally; this was a decision reached amongst all current staff members (and yes, that means Iris and Maise, too). It wasn't a decision that was reached lightly, either. It involved a lot of arguing, back and forth, slammed doors, thrown soft drinks, and broken monitors. Two people got hit in the head with staplers, significant others became concerned, the police were called in... it wasn't pretty folks. But point is, we're now all out of the hospital, and on the same page.
"But Gabriel!," I hear our legion of fan crying out, "Blink 182 went on an extended hiatus and they've never come back! We know what you really mean!"
Well yes, that is always a possibility I suppose, but Blink 182's hiatus also gave us both Box Car Racer AND Angels & Airwaves, so maybe it was sorta AWESOME, no?
And in that vein, I am REALLY happy to finally be able to announce our very own BCR/A&A, Places Parallel.
Birthed from the snarky loins of Maise and Iris, Places Parallel takes the commentary and conversation (and straight up obnoxiousness) of WTC, and uses the entire music scene as its target. Really good stuff (and if you're a Pumpkins fan you'll definitely want to read). We'll all be making stops in there from time to time, so please check them out, leave a comment and support 'em -- they did great work here, and Dierdre and I are really looking forward to what they've got in store.
And that's it folks. I want to thank everybody for all their support and readership over the past couple years -- it's really been fun. Dierdre did want me to emphasize that this is not a closing... eventually that Formerly Angry Now Seemingly Well-Adjusted And Isn't That Dull? Midget is going to put out another record, and I'm sure we'll have something to say when that time comes. We'll have the folks at PP give everyone a heads up as well when there's new content.
In the meantime, comments will remain open, enjoy reading some of the old shit if that's your thing, and keep on listening to Trent Reznor and digging your Nine Inch Nails records. Some great fucking music is what all of this was about, and no matter what comes and goes in our respective lives, that will never change.
Much love to everyone (except for those fuckers we don't like -- you know who you are).
Gabriel, Dierdre, Iris, Maise, & Mimi

Thanks for rehiring me, just as we go on hiatus, Gabe!
In all seriousness, I'm VERY EXCITED about Places Parallel. First of all, we have a NEW contributor, Ro. Second, we don't have to wait on Trank's lazy ass in order to be able to write something interesting. Third, Iris, Ro, and myself will all be at Lollapalooza the weekend of August 3-5, so we're hoping to do some LIVE BLOGGING, bitches!
Please do join us over there. Even if just to say hi or complain or shoot the shit. Oh, and Kittykins? If you've missed my loooooong posts, you will be most pleased with what you will find on the new site.

The end of an era. Let me be the first to bid a fond farewell.
Vive le Chains!

I already pushed your site, Maise -- can you please just take TWO FUCKING SECONDS to mourn WTC before pushing your own agenda?
Jesus Christ. You're like a fucking Tony Robbins infomercial already.

Okay...one...two...
(sigh)
Hey, everyone...check out Places Parallel!
Posted by: maise | Jul 25, 2007 12:12:46 PM
Wow, Maise, FUCK YOU.
Posted by: Gabriel | Jul 25, 2007 12:16:14 PM
How about this -- spend this time right now writing content for your new site rather than linking it for the fourth time in 5 minutes.
*ahem*
Sorry folks. As you were.
Posted by: Gabriel | Jul 25, 2007 12:17:25 PM
Hey, you said that the template was changing back...but I still see Avril.
Remember, folks...Places Parallel will be completely AVRIL-FREE!!!
Posted by: maise | Jul 25, 2007 12:21:21 PM
Reload your fucking browser's cache you dumb twit.
Places Parallel -- from the people that can't figure out how to load web pages properly.
Good luck with that.

I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed being part of this site, even if I only posted about twice. You guys kept me laughing through some really crappy times, and I will miss reading all the comments and stuff over breakfast at the weekend. I was more-or-less a NIN newbie when I started reading, and inadvertently or otherwise you've all pointed me in the right direction by mentioning songs I wasn't familiar [and there were a lot] with or linking articles and as for the photo essays, well, that was a whole different kind of education! I'm sorry for babbling. I guess I just want to say that all your efforts have been appreciated, very much so, and WTC will be missed.

I wasn't gonna post - because I am still SUPER PISSED AT ALL OF YOU - but yeah - from the beginning this site has been fun as shit. I would say I will miss you but Gabriel lives like a mile from my place so I won't miss him.
I won't miss Maise, who is a traitor.
I will miss myself most of all, and the passion and non-nin intelligence i brought to this hellhole.
Thank you, me.
People I DON'T want to thank: Gabriel when he isn't smoking, Iris when she called me a "douche", Dierdre, Bono, The Gap, JR when she got all Bill O'Reilly on me, Year Zero, With Teeth, the ARG and your stupid face, yes...you.

Oh Angelman, it's so HOTT when you chastise me. You know what would be HOTTER? Chastising me at Places Parallel.

wahhhhhh! why god, why?
Posted by: | Jul 25, 2007 2:17:17 PM
It's my fault. Sorry.

Long time reader, I think first time poster. RIP WTC. Lots of other acronyms. Hope you're all well.

Even though most of my comments in recent months have been kind of hateful and bitchy, I've really loved this place. Dierdre’s photo essays, Gabriel’s l’orangerie stank covers, Mimi’s fabulous fanfics, Maise’s unbeatable haiku skill...all of it has been sheer brilliance and I’m going to sorely miss it.
And you commenters! Some of you have made me laugh until I was in tears. Remember Kim from way back when and her creation of what I believe to be the best Trent gif ever made. Or Bex, or Jane, Dom, Baal Glyttr or any of the other countless commenters that I unfortunately cannot remember your names. Good times, man. You can bet your ass I’ll still be rereading this site.
That’s not to say I don’t equally love you newer commenters. You guys have been a blast and I hope you stick with us over at Places Parallel. Unbelievable as it may seem, I’ve even got love for you, JR. BTW...how’s that coffee mug working out for you? ;) Angelman I’d even tell you you’re awesome if I didn’t know you already tell yourself that a million times a day when practicing your affirmations. Still I hope you can eventually make it out to Chicago.
I only became a real fan of NIN when I heard “The Hand That Feeds”. I know that may not be a song to last the NIN ages but it pulled me in enough to find this crazy site and shown me all the rest of what there is to love about this band and this man. Seriously thank you a million times over. Besides the snark that’s gone on here I’ve made some truly wonderful friends and was lucky enough to travel halfway around the world to meet them in person (oh and catch a fucking fabulous show in Vienna while we were there.)
Damn guys. I think I might actually shed a tear. You can see how this has not been an easy decision for any of us to make this the end of the road for WTC. There’s a lot of love between the lines here (except for those times we’re being complete hipster bitches). Let’s all have a drink to the next album (cranberry juice for you Trent) and hope it still inspires all the same affectionate snark.
Currently reabsorbing: “The Day The World Went Away” from Still
Seems somewhat appropriately dramatic.

Goodbye.
I'm so very sad. I have fond memories of this place. It's like we are all graduating from high school or something.
Posted by: Lavender | Jul 25, 2007 11:59:25 PM
Dammit, Iris, I was purposely trying very hard not to be sad about this!
Of course this place has been a source of entertainment for me as I toil away at my thankless job. But it means oh so much more to me than that. For reasons that I can't really get into, it was a veritable lifeline as I went through some really heavy shit in my life, as Dierdre, Gabriel and Iris will remember, and that was how I was able to get so close to those people who were so far away.
It was REALLY hard to get me to agree to this for that reason. Fortunately now, all's well that ends well, and I don't need this website to hold together the fragile, frayed threads of my sanity. But this site will always occupy a very, very dear place in my heart. And I'm looking forward to the day when we're open for business again!
In the meantime, I'm also very excited about helping to keep the spirit alive at...well, I'll spare you this time.
Love to all and especially to Trent...if [he_reads].

I feel kinda bad saying it, but I think it's for the best. I love this site to little snuggly bits but it's been getting a little stale of late.
Don't think me to be a critic or an asshole or something, I don't mean to be a cunt about it, but I don't think anyone can rightly deny that things have sort of slowed down.
That said I'm kinda sad to see An Official Hiatus. I'm hardly prominent here and I constantly get the feeling that I'm boring the breasts off you all but I'll happily say that this is one of my favourite web-haunts nonetheless.
Pretty psyched about Places Parallel, although I'm a fucking ninja so I already knew about it, hee hee.

Ms. Vomit, as much as I fucking loathe your screen name, I have to agree with you -- it has been a bit stale of late, and that's why even *I* Dierdre Keating, agreed to the hiatus. But, as final as Gaybriel made it all sound, I want all of you to know that if I fucking FEEL LIKE IT, I will post if I want to. This place is not dead, JUST SLEEPING.
Viva WTC. And, love to you all.
Especially you, Trent.
Posted by: Dierdre | Jul 26, 2007 8:55:23 AM
Amen, D.
Posted by: maise | Jul 26, 2007 9:06:52 AM
Aw man D. Why you gotta be hatin' on the screenname? :'(
(Actually I'll freely admit it's pretty bad. I have lengthy boring reasons for using it as opposed to one of my other MILLIONS of screennames, but, er, they are lengthy and boring so yar.)

Way to be a stealthy ninja, RV.
